LOS ANGELES CATHOLIC ARCHDIOCESE * SAN BUENAVENTURA MISSION SCHOOL , MISSION SAN BUENAVENTURA, VENTURA
The Catholic Archdiocese planned to build a school over the original Spanish Colonial Mission courtyard area which had previously contained the neophyte quarters. The archaeological investigation involved the delineation, testing and salvage of the suspected neophyte area adjacent to the mission. JMA was able to delineate the boundary of quarters by geophysical testing. Salvage mitigation involved recovery of the part of the site impacted by the drilling of the caissons supporting the school. Archaeological mitigation and monitoring of grading activities continued during the construction of the school.
